Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI or MR) is one of the safest, most comfortable imaging techniques available. It combines a powerful magnet with an advanced computer system and radio waves to produce accurate, detailed pictures of organs and tissues to diagnose a variety of medical conditions.
At CDI, our MRI suites are spacious, most with natural lighting. High-field, short MRI scanner design combined with our associates’ compassionate care maximizes patient comfort. In addition, CDI offers a variety of patient comfort tools, including headphones for music, mirrored glasses to see out of the scanner, and a two-way communication system to speak with the technologist anytime during the exam.
If you've never experienced an MRI, you may want to hear what it sounds like before your visit. Below you can listen to some of the various sounds made by an MRI during its scan cycle. Keep in mind that you will be wearing headphones to block out much of the noise. If you like, bring your favorite CD to listen to during the exam. (Sound files courtesy of GE Medical.)
