There has been a lot of recent news coverage about radiation dose, specific to CT imaging. At CDI, we want to assure you that we are focused on patient safety in all of our imaging modalities, including CT.

The radiation received during a CT scan is not a general number for every patient. It’s very dependent on the type of study, the patient’s size/weight and the area of anatomy we’re imaging. At CDI we take a number of measures to keep your radiation exposure to a minimum, including:


  • Consultations by our specialized radiologists with your doctor to determine which imaging modality is best for you; in fact, each CT order is evaluated by our radiologists to determine the appropriateness of the exam

  • Careful patient placement within the gantry by our ARRT-certified technologists to center the anatomy of interest for an optimal scan

  • Customized protocols (field of view) for reduced radiation based on the exam and the patient (size/weight)

  • Real-time dose modulation to reduce patient radiation dose while maintaining maximum image quality

  • Shielding equipment to reduce radiation exposure to specific areas, including the neck/thyroid, eyes and chest/breast

  • Imaging optimization philosophy called ALARA or “As Low As Reasonably Achievable” to capture images that are of diagnostic quality at the lowest possible level of radiation exposure

  • Accredited by the ACR (American College of Radiology), a rigorous quality and safety review that is nationally recognized in our industry
